Beach house upgrade

Adding a bathroom and toilet to a two bedroom, 1 bathroom home

Client: Douglas and project manager

Profile: Professional working overseas looking to add value to his home.

The Bathroom Retreat took on the project in the lovely beachside suburb of Rye on the Mornington Peninsula to create a new bathroom from an existing living room space. The beach house regularly needs to sleep six people or more and it seemed a no-brainer to make things a lot more comfortable.

Our client requested a separate toilet be created within the allocated space for added convenience so we got to work to create the new space by framing up and installing the necessary plumbing for the toilet, shower and vanity. The project took approximately 4 weeks including painting and matching existing so on completion the bathroom looked as though it had always been there! With small inconvenience and an investment under $20,000 the home went from two bed and 1 bathroom to two bed and 2 bathroom.

"My wife and I decided that updating our bathrooms would be a good way to add value to our home and improve the enjoyment of our bathroom spaces. As a result we left the project in the hands of The Bathroom Retreat while we were overseas for an extended period. On return and seeing the completion of the bathrooms we are particularly happy with the redesign of our main bathroom. Originally the shower was in a small awkward space whilst the rest of the bathroom was quite large and under utilised. As a result of moving the location of the shower and bath we now have a large open shower which has made the space much more practical. The choice of tiles has a created a very light inviting space.

The ensuite has a more luxury feel with darker tiles on the floor extended up one wall. The shower is larger and the vanity being wall hung compared to the original style on the floor has created a more spacious feel. Overall we are very happy with the result and quality of works."
